Thomas Earl Petty (s. 20. lokakuuta 1950 Gainesville, Florida) on yhdysvaltalainen rockmuusikko.
Petty syntyi Gainesvillessä ja opiskeli Gainesville High Schoolissa. Hänen varhaisia yhtyeitään olivat The Sundowners, The Epics ja Mudcrutch. Levytysuransa hän aloitti vuonna 1976 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers -yhtyeen kanssa. Ensimmäinen albumi oli Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, jota seurasi vuonna 1978 You're Gonna Get It!, yhtyeen ensimmäinen kultalevy.
Tom Petty on vuodesta 1981 lähtien ollut kuusitoista kertaa ehdolla Grammy-palkinnon saajaksi. Pettylle myönnettiin vuonna 1999 tähti Hollywood Walk of Famelle ja vuonna 2002 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers pääsi Rock and Roll Hall of Fameen. Petty on toiminut myös Traveling Wilburys -yhtyeessä.
Tunnettuja kappaleita mm. "American Girl", "Refugee", "Running Down a Dream", "Free Fallin'", "Into the Great Wide Open" ja "Learning to Fly".
Pettyllä on ollut myös pieniä näyttelijärooleja elokuvissa ja televisiossa. Tunnetuin lienee Lucky-hahmon ääni Kukkulan kuningas -animaatiosarjassa.
