The Everly Brothers
The Everly Brothers oli yhdysvaltalainen, 1950–1960-lukujen vaihteessa suosionsa huipulla ollut lauluduo. Sen muodostivat veljekset Isaac Donald ”Don” Everly (s. 1. helmikuuta 1937 Brownie, Kentucky – 21. elokuuta 2021 Nashville, Tennessee[1]) ja Philip ”Phil” Everly (19. tammikuuta 1939 Chicago, Illinois – 3. tammikuuta 2014 Burbank, Kalifornia[2]). Heidän edustamaansa musiikinlajia on kuvattu kantrivaikutteiseksi rock and rolliksi.
The Everly Brothersin ensimmäinen single ”Keep A’ Lovin Me” (1956) ei myynyt odotetusti, mutta seuraavasta, Elviksen ja monien muiden artistien aiemmin hylkäämästä kappaleesta ”Bye Bye Love” (1957) tuli heidän ensimmäinen suuri listamenestyksensä. Veljesduon tunnetuimpiin kappaleisiin kuuluvat myös ”Wake Up Little Susie” (1957), ”Claudette” (1958), ”Let It Be Me” (1959), ”All I Have to Do Is Dream” (1960), ”Cathy’s Clown” (1960), ”When Will I Be Loved” (1960) ja ”Crying in the Rain” (1961). Duo lopetti virallisesti 1973 ja veljekset lähtivät soolourille, mutta he tekivät satunnaisesti yhteiskeikkoja. Vuonna 1983 listojen kärkisijoille nousi heidän kappaleensa ”On the Wings of a Nightingale”.
Yhtye vaikutti suuresti Simon & Garfunkelin, The Beatlesin ja The Beach Boysin lauluharmonioihin sekä muidenkin yhtyeiden musiikkiin.
The Everly Brothers kuuluu sekä Rock and Roll Hall of Fameen että Country Music Hall of Fameen. Duolla on myös tähti Hollywood Walk of Famella. Albumi A Date with the Everly Brothers (1961) valittiin vuonna 2005 julkaistuun hakuteokseen 1001 albumia jotka jokaisen on kuultava edes kerran eläessään.[3]
