Finland 100 years approaching.

Hey, happy new year ! I wrote on your no-page 2 years ago. no:Brukerdiskusjon:Danmichaelo/Arkiv/2015#Finland_100. Now we have 100 featured/good/OK articles on the list ( a few may still change). The challenge should happen in November. Are you still in ? Can you give some advice ? Should the list be in fi-wiki or en-wiki ? What about the page where people register ? Cool, thanks for reminding me of this early on! One problem with running it from fiwiki is that the templates are in Finnish. So it might be a better idea to put the contest page on enwiki, but then the templates will have to be copied over there and translated, which is quite some work for a single contest, so perhaps its better to just do manual counting. I started to hesitate because I am afraid do we get permissions to run the bot in en-wiki, and what is someone deletes some templates during the contest ? Do you have experience in this ? Which username should own the templates ? For the weekly contests on nowiki, it checks nowiki, nnwiki and sewiki. Adding more wikis is just a matter of adding the names of the wikis to a configuration file. So we just need to know what wikis to check (and more wikis could be added during the contest). It's possible that checking *all* wikis would work, but it wouldn't be very efficient and is probably not a good idea. Regarding permissions, I should probably make a bot request. @Tappinen: The bot got approved to do test edits, so then we need to create some templates. Began pondering what names to use. Since there's probably never going to be a weekly contest on enwiki, "weekly contest" doesn't make much sense. One idea would be to generally just use the "UK" name... so creating a "Category:UKBot", and then adding templates "UK Infobox", "UK rule", "UK criterium" and so on.. @Tappinen: Ok, so I created en:Category:UKBot, and have so far translated the Lua module and the criterion and points templates. Since this and any other contest on enwiki will be ad hoc, not on a weekly basis, I created a category that the bot will look for active contests in: en:Category:UKBot active contests. We need to create a small test contest there to check that the bot runs fine, do you think you could do that? Exotic feeling :D I'm open for both options, I can also help translating the templates, but I won't do it alone. The bot has been tested for multi-wiki challenges, I would expect some minor issues with new sites – such as rollbacks not being detected correctly (the bot looks for the specific text in MediaWiki:Undo-summary), but most stuff working fine. @Tappinen, Ppntori: Sorry I missed your messages. Made some changes to the codebase and forgot to update the Finnish config. Fixed now, and on the good side the bot runs much faster now! What happened was that we did a wikidata contest on nowiki last week that more or less forced me to do some optimizations. I think something went wrong again. The bot checked the results after I told it to send ut, but it didn't actually give anyone any awards. 1471 words was removed from Dead Space 3, 1146 from MapleStory, and so on.. so just counting the words added and removed, the counter is actually right. But I'm not sure if it makes much sense.. Hi, I enabled the bot at crontable. There was also one improvement idea. Incorrect send ut

Problem seems to be that update_fi.sh got out of memory when it tried to close the elokuun kuvitustalkoot. Now when it is closed it is fine. The thing is.. the bot determines what contest page(s) to work on in the following way: First it checks if there is an existing contest at the current site (not the current config) to be closed. Then it checks if there is a contest to be marked as ended. Finally it looks for a contest following the pattern defined in the config file. This is the "get_contest_page_titles" method. It would probably be better if the first two tests only checked contests matching the pattern defined in the config file, but when I wrote the code I probably didn't have several contests running at the same time in my mind. Yeah, the "send ut" is currently not connected to any specific contest, so in practice it means "close the first contest that can be closed at this wiki". UKBot wasn't really designed with concurrent contests in mind, but I will see if I can improve this in the future. VK points from wiki loves monuments photos

Hi, is it possible to add ukbot points rule which tracks if added image is in user defined category in commons. Giving points to new images in given categories on Commons in the same way as you give points to new pages on Wikipedia should be possible. But if I understand you right, you rather want to give points for images added to fiwiki that are part of the given Commons categories? That's not possible. Ukbot currently fetches imageinfo from Commons for each image in order to check if it's "own image" and such. But adding Commons category checking could be some work and also quite expensive, since it would have to check categories recursively for each image on each page, and it couldn't be cached easily I think.. –Danmichaelo (keskustelu) 9. syyskuuta 2017 kello 17.19 (EEST)

After some testing. The first question is that if the uploaded image in the correct commons category. It doesn't need to be recursive and we can define that image needs to be directly in correct category so it can be done with single API-call. Second way to read same thing is to use Petscan (example psid: 1267976). However doing SQL queries against commonswiki_p in toollabs is unusable slow.

Second problem is that do we need limit number of articles in somehow or is it possible to use whole NS0? I guess i could do a cronjob which could create a list of pages which would contain pages with imagelinks to images in c:Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2017. --Zache (keskustelu) 9. syyskuuta 2017 kello 18.46 (EEST)

I'm a bit hesitant about a non-recursive category check rule, since I think it would only be useful in a few cases. Most likely However my generic solution would be to add parameter psid and then use it to read allowed image list from petscan. So first the bot needs to know when the contests starts and stops. Since I guess you don't want to use the normal infobox, I created a dummy template that is understood by the bot, but doesn't produce any output: [5]. Next, it must understand the scoring rules. Here I think we can use the standard templates. They produce Finnish output of course, but perhaps it's fine to have the rules in both English (manually) and Finnish (from the templates)? Think it should work as it is now. But new wikis will have to be added to the configuration manually, so we have to think about how we can make sure we catch new additions quite quickly. The easiest solution is perhaps that the organizers check the site once a day and message me if new sites have been added, but there might be better solutions. Next step: if you add a draft version of the list of articles page, we can run the bot to test if it catches edits to the pages at other language editions like en.wikipedia and sv.wikipedia (I changed the start time for testing). Another issue to think about is timezones.. Is it ok to have the contest start and end according to the Finnish time zone? Reason for this was that wanted scores to be visible. Bot too eager to give points

I don't think I have ever complained about UKBot working too efficiently, but I guess there's a first for everything. I happened to notice that the new(ish) feature of the bot, which gives points for a new article when turning an existing redirect into an actual article, works just fine, and then it works just fine, again. So, for some reason it gives the points twice. If i use category and sparql -filter then is it?

2. page must be in category OR in sparql result

Double points from removing templates

Hi! This week's contest is about editing pages that have been marked as needing an update. This is done with one of three templates: {{Korjattava/päivitys}}, {{Parannettava/päivitys}} or {{Päivitettävä}}. Removing these templates is worth 20 points, but there seems to be a bit of an issue. The three templates are actually only one template, as {{Parannettava/päivitys}} and {{Päivitettävä}} are in fact just redirects to {{Korjattava/päivitys}}. However, when removing {{Parannettava/päivitys}} or {{Päivitettävä}}, the bot gives double the points. It seems the redirect somehow confuses the bot. For example, here only {{Päivitettävä}} has been removed, but the bot has given the contestant 20 points for removing {{Päivitettävä}} and then 20 points for removing {{Korjattava/päivitys}}. I think the bot counts {{Päivitettävä}} as both of these templates, as it is technically both the template itself and another template at the same time. Guess the bot was once again smarter than us humans… :D Looking back at previous contests, the same issue could be seen, but apparently it has gone unnoticed until now. Probably had to do with the fact that the article in question was deleted, which caused an error. I now removed the "VK muokkaus hylätty", ran the bot, and everything seems to be fine. As for the original issue, I cannot see a problem. Deleted articles

Hi there! Got another problem for you. It seems there is no way to remove points that participants have gotten from articles that have since been deleted. I tried to remove such points in VK 26, but this causes the bot to say 'UKBot found an error: page does not exist' and it is unable to update the scores. VK 40

Hi! It's been a while since the last time there was an issue with Viikon kilpailu, but here we go again. Some edits that should have been counted towards Wikipedia:Viikon kilpailu/Viikon kilpailu 2018-40 were not counted due to incorrect categories. Error reports were posted by the user in question about three minutes before midnight on Sunday, and of course this was the one time the organizer of the contest told UKBot to close the contest right after midnight without noticing the reports. The categories are now fixed, but the results are already finalized, so the contest would need to be updated once more and the awards distributed again, as the edits in question will mean the user gets over 2500 points and gets a different award. Problem with UKBot

Hi, UKBot seems to have stopped running on fiwiki. I checked the log from the latest run and found this error:

mysql.connector.errors.IntegrityError: 1062 (23000): Duplicate entry '17852381-fi.wikipedia.org' for key 'PRIMARY'

I think that's correct behaviour. Since I reset the week 3 contest, another confirmation was required in case any new awards would have to be sent out, but it skips awards that have already been sent out.
