Roll Away the Stone on brittiläisen Mott the Hoople -yhtyeen vuonna 1973 singlenä julkaistu musiikkikappale, jonka kirjoitti Ian Hunter. Seuraavana vuonna se julkaistiin myös yhtyeen studioalbumilla The Hoople. Kappaleessa on vaikutteita The Ronettes -yhtyeeltä ja Phil Spectorin tuotantotyylistä.[1]
Kappale nousi Britanniassa listasijalle kahdeksan.[2] Sitä myytiin enemmän kuin yhtyeen aiempaa menestyssingleä ”All the Young Dudes”, ja siitä myönnettiin yhtyeelle hopealevy.[1] Saksan liittotasavallassa ”Roll Away the Stone” ylsi sijalle 25.[3]
Albumilla julkaistu versio eroaa hieman alkuperäisestä singleversiosta, jossa soolokitaraa soitti Mick Ralphs. Uusi kitaristi Ariel Bender soitti alkuperäisen pohjaraidan päälle uuden soolokitaraosuuden.[4] Ralphsin soittama alkuperäinen rytmikitaraosuus jätettiin kuitenkin paikalleen.[5] Lisäksi Lynsey de Paul lausui uuden puheosuuden.[4]
Singlen B-puolen kappale on ”Where Do You All Come From”, jonka Hunter oli kirjoittanut jo vuonna 1971. Nyt se merkittiin koko yhtyeen tekemäksi ja äänitettiin studiolivenä.[1]
