Walter Scheidel (s. 9. heinäkuuta 1966, Wien, Itävalta) on itävaltalainen historioitsija ja antiikintutkija, joka on toiminut professorina Stanfordin yliopistossa Kaliforniassa vuodesta 2004 lähtien. Hän väitteli tohtoriksi Wienin yliopistossa vuonna 1993.

Scheidel on erikoistunut Rooman valtakunnan historiaan. Hänen mielenkiintonsa kohteita ovat sosiaalihistoria, taloushistoria, väestöhistoria, eriarvoisuus, valtioiden synty ja ihmisten hyvinvointi. Hän pyrkii yhdistämään tutkimuksessaan humanistiset tieteet, yhteiskuntatieteet ja biotieteet.
