Symptom of the Universe: The Original Black Sabbath 1970–1978 on Black Sabbathin kokoelmalevy vuosilta 1970–1978. Kappaleet ovat remasteroitu alkuperäisiltä Warner Bros.-yhtiön master-nauhoilta. Kokoelma julkaistiin vain Pohjois-Amerikassa. Kokoelma lasketaan viralliseksi julkaisuksi, sillä yhtyeen jäsenet ovat olleet sen työstämisessä mukana. Myöhemmin julkaistut Black Box: The Complete Original Black Sabbath 1970-1978- ja Greatest Hits 1970-1978-kokoelmat ovat myös samoista remasterointi-sarjasta tehtyjä.

Kokoelma sisältää kappaleita tasaisesti yhtyeen kahdeksalta 1970-luvulla julkaistulta studio-albumilta. Kappale "Evil Woman" on albumilla ensimmäistä kertaa virallisesti julkaistuna Pohjois-Amerikassa, sillä se julkaistiin alun perin vain Euroopassa. Kokoelman äänenlaatua on kehuttu huomattavasti paremmaksi edellisiin remasterointeihin verrattuna.
