John Holbrook Vance (s. 28. elokuuta 1916 Kaliforniassa) on yhdysvaltalainen fantasia-, tieteis- ja rikoskirjailija, joka käyttää kirjailijanimeä Jack Vance. Hän on kirjoittanut yli 60 kirjaa, joista monet ovat useamman kirjan sarjoja. Vance aloitti uransa 1940-luvulla science fiction -lehdissä. Vancen tunnetuimpia luomuksia on hänen esikoisteoksensa Iltaruskon maa (The Dying Earth, 1950). Vancen tieteisromaanisarjoja ovat muun muassa viisiosainen Demon Princes -sarja ja neliosainen Tschai-sarja. 1980-luvulla hän kirjoitti World Fantasy -palkitun Lyonesse-fantasiatrilogian. Vance on saanut World Fantasy -elämäntyöpalkinnon 1984 ja SFWA Grand Master -palkinnon 1997.[1]

Vance sai Edgar-palkinnon parhaasta rikosromaanista 1961 teoksella The Man In the Cage (1960). Muita rikosromaaneja ovat sheriffi Joe Bainista kertovat The Fox Valley Murders (1966) ja The Pleasant Grove Murders (1967). Uransa varhaiskaudella Vance kirjoitti myös rikosromaaneja salanimillä Ellery Queen, Alan Wade ja Peter Held.[2] Kaksi Vancen rikosromaania suomennettiin 1960-luvulla, mutta teokset eivät kuulu Vancen laadukkaampaan tuotantoon.[3]
