Frances Ridley Havergal (14. joulukuuta 1836 – 3. kesäkuuta 1879) oli englantilainen uskonnollinen runoilija ja virsirunoilija. "Take my life and let it be" ja "Thy life for Me" (tunnetaan myös nimellä "I gave My life for thee") ovat kaksi hänen parhaiten tunnettua virttään. Hän sävelsi myös virsiä sekä kirjoitti teoksia lapsille ja uskonnollisia kirjoituksia. Hän ei vaatinut itselleen näkyvää paikkaa, mutta erottuvan yksilöllisyytensä ansiosta hän hyödynsi markkinaraon, jonka hän yksin pystyi täyttämään.

Varhainen elämä ja koulutus

Frances Ridley Havergal syntyi anglikaaniseen perheeseen Astleyssa Worcestershiressä 14. joulukuuta 1836. Hänen isänsä William Henry Havergal (1793–1870) oli pappi, kirjailija, säveltäjä ja virsirunoilija. Hänen veljensä, Henry East Havergal, oli pappi Englannin kirkossa ja urkuri.

Kun Havergal oli viisivuotias, hänen isänsä muutti Pyhän Nikolauksen pappilaan Worcesteriin. Elokuussa 1850 hän siirtyi Ms. Teedin kouluun, jonka vaikutus häneen oli kaikkein hyödyllisin. Ura

Vuonna 1860 hän jätti Worcesterin, isänsä erottua Pyhän Nikolauksen pappilasta ja asui eri ajanjaksoina Leamingtonissa ja Caswell Bayssä, Swanseassa, mutta se katkesi vierailulla Sveitsissä, Skotlannissa ja Pohjois-Walesissa. Havergalin tärkeimpiä lauluja ovat muun muassa “Golden harps are sounding", “I gave my life for thee", “Jesus, Master, Whose I am", “Lord, speak to me”, “O Master, at Thy feet", “Take my life and let it be” ja “Tell it out among the heathen". Hänen sisarensa näkivät suuren osan hänen työstään julkaistuna vasta kuoleman jälkeen. Havergal College, yksityinen tyttökoulu Torontossa on nimetty hänen mukaan. Säveltäjä Havergal Brian muutti nimensä kunnianosoituksena Havergalien perheelle.
