Hi!

I am polish and I was quite surprised (and amused:) )that you put Benoit Mandelbrot in the "Tunnettuja puolalaisia" (as I understand it means "Famous Poles"). Well, as much I would like him to be polish, he is not. You could put for example Aleksander Wolszczan instead (he is a famous astronomer, he discovered the first planets outside solar system) or Adam Małysz who everyone in Finland surely knows as we all know Janne Ahonen here in Poland :)

Well, if the Polish think he was French, our article on him says he was French, and articles elsewhere say he was French, then he probably was French. Hi again! Well, this is really interesting! I am studying at the department of mathematics and have never heard that Mandelbrot was born in Poland, but it seems he really was (http://www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Mandelbrot.html). Thank you Mr Ristaniemi, it was really nice to learn that. Nevertheless it seems he considers himself a Frenchman (also his father was French), and he was educated in France, so it's better you have removed him from the list. Considering the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_famous_Poles I think he should stay there as this is "a partial list of famous Polish, Polish-speaking/writing people, and people born in Poland" and he indeed was born in Warsaw.

One more thing. Maria skłodowska - Curie, who was twice the Nobel Prize winner was also famous Pole. She is often wrongly considered to be French because her husband Pierre Curie was French.

Sitä ehkä joku pätevämpi voisi kehittää, jos ei ensivaiheessa muuksi, niin ainakin yhteenvedoksi siitä kirjallisuudesta höystettynä säveltäjillä ja muilla taiteilijoilla, ja ehkä modernimmilla ilmiöillä kuten Nalle Luppakorva tai muu Se-ma-forin tuotanto (johon sisältyy mm. Puolan "suurimmat kaupungit" -kohdassa ei mainita toiseksi suurinta kaupunkia eli Lodzia. Kommentin jätti 164.5.101.13 (keskustelu – muokkaukset).

"Płemię"

Regarding the paragraph: "Polaanien nimi puolestaan juontuu todennäköisesti joko sanasta pole (pelto) tai płemię (heimo)" . Was the spelling of the Polish word for "tribe" supposed to reflect some archaic form? Modern day spelling of "tribe" is "plemię" not "płemię" (no such word as "płemię" exists in modern day Polish).

Also, the idea that the name of Poland derives in any way from the word "plemię" itself is new and strange to me. Is there any souce for this? Perhaps some confusion arose from the fact the name "Polska/Poland" is thought to originate from the name of the tribe of the Polans (Polanie), whose name in turn is derived from the word "pole" (field). In other words: while the name Poland may come from a name of a certain tribe, it isn't a derivative of the word "plemię" itself.

Well, thanks for this old spelling device. But a name of a nation can be also a derivative even from the word meaning "tribe". Muutamia juttuja

Muutamia juttuja tuli vielä mieleen mahdollista HA-äänestystä ajatellen.

• politiikassa voisi olla ulkopolitiikasta jotain. En nyt tiedä siitä suuriakaan, mutta mieleen tuli ainakin Oder-Neisse-linja, joka taidettiin lopullisesti vahvistaa vasta Saksan yhdistymisen aikoihin 1990, ja sitten Katynin joukkomurhasta on ollut kissanhännänvetoa Puolan ja Venäjän välillä.
• hallinnollisessa jaossa ei tarvitsisi välttämättä luetella kaikkia alueita (luettelot ovat tosin makukysymys). Periaatteessa voivodikunnat kun selviävät tuosta kartastakin.
• väestöosassa voisi mainita katolisen kirkon erityisaseman, mikä näkyi myös sosialismin aikana. Liittyiköhän tuohon katolisuuteen jotain aborttilainsäädäntöön tai ehkäisyyn liittyviä kiistoja erityisesti Puolassa, vai oliko se Irlanti vai muistelenko omiani.
• kuuluukohan suurimmat kaupungit väestöosaan? Bulgariassa ne ovat hallinnollisen jaon yhteydessä (ehkä vähän huono paikka sekin) eikä artikkelimallissa ole niille paikkaa.
• YK:n vuosituhattavoitteista ei taida olla tietoa? [1]
• Nikolaus Kopernikus olisi varmaan ansainnut paikkansa tässäkin artikkelissa esim. historiaosiossa.
• nobel-kirjailijoista puolalaissyntyinen on vielä Isaac Bashevis Singer. Hän tosin kirjoitti jiddishiksi.
• nähtävyys-kuvagallerian ottaisin pois ja muutenkin karsisin kuvitusta tai sijoittelisin ainakin uudelleen.--Tanár 13. huhtikuuta 2012 kello 23.42 (EEST)

Ulkopolitiikkaa ja asevoimia tehty. Kaupungit siirretty hallinnolliseen jakoon, säästin luettelon. Katolisuutta väestössä, voisi olla myös kulttuurissa tai politiikassa. Monet itsensä sivistysmaiksi laskevat eivät kirjaa vuosituhattavoitteita kun ei niissä ole köyhiä tai lukutaidottomia. Singer lisätty.
