Soul Asylum on vuonna 1983 perustettu yhdysvaltalainen rockyhtye. Yhtyeen alkuperäiskokoonpanon muodostivat Dave Pirner (rummut, laulu), Karl Mueller (bassokitara), Dan Murphy (kitara). Yhtye soitti tuolloin nimellä Loud Fast Rules. Vuonna 1981 Pirner luopui rumpujensoitosta ja hänen tilalleen tuli Pat Morley. Vuonna 1984 vakiintuneeseen kokoonpanoon kuuluivat Dave Pirnerin, Dan Murphyn ja Karl Muellerin lisäksi rumpali Grant Young. Tämä kokoonpano vaikutti vuoteen 1995. Alkuperäisestä kokoonpanosta ovat jäljellä enää Dave Pirner ja Dan Murphy. Karl Muellerin kohtaloksi koitui vuonna 2004 havaittu syöpä, johon hän kuoli kesäkuussa 2005. Nykyiseen kokoonpanoon kuuluvat Pirnerin ja Murphyn lisäksi rumpali Michael Bland ja bassokitaristit Tommy Stinson ja George McKelvey, jotka vuorottelevat konserttikiertueiden keikoilla.
