English: Copper alloy miniature votive axehead/chisel probably dating to the late middle Bronze Age. The object is a model of a flanged flat axe (a precursor to the Palstave axe). The model has a long thin body that narrows slightly from the butt to the centre; there are flanges on each side of the body. The axe splays to the blade which is flattened and has a slightly rounded cutting edge. The axe weighs 2.1g and measures 38.49mm in length, 10.27mm in width and 3.62mm in thickness. Miniature versions of functional objects are commonly ritual contexts and are thought to represent votive deposits. |
