Westward the Course of Empire Takes Its Way on seinämaalaus, joka sijaitsee Yhdysvaltain kongressitalon läntisen porraskäytävän takana. Muraalin maalasi saksalais-yhdysvaltalaisen taidemaalari Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze[1] ja se symboloi kutsumuskohtaloa.
Muraali on saanut nimensä George Berkeleyn runon ”On the Prospect of Planting Arts and Learning in America” viimeisestä säkeistöstä:[2]
Westward the course of empire takes its way;
The first four Acts already past,
A fifth shall close the Drama with the day;
Time's noblest offspring is the last.
