Ok, the articles are based on the sources the writers have available at the time of writing. Possible errors can always be modified, but first we would need a reliable source for the existence of the Suliot Dog. Several photos in Wikimedia Commons are unfortunately not enough because anyone can upload photos and write that they represent a certain breed (a good example was so called "Malaysian Mantu" breed, where the article was already removed because it was proven to be nonsense, but the wikimedia commons category for "Malaysian Mantu" photos was still existing after the deletion of the article). For the claims of the existence, the better source would be a reliable text source, for instance an internet article about a breed or a breed club webpage etc. I was trying to google so that I could find a breed club or even a breeder's webpage, but I couldn't find anything reliable by just "Suliot Dog". How is the breed called in Greek? --Canarian (keskustelu) 8. joulukuuta 2013 kello 22.35 (EET)[vastaa]
Another thing I forgot to point out in my earlier message: The ancient Suliot Dog was said to be approximately 121 cm tall, I don't think dogs as large exist today... Here's a direct quote from Dogs - The Ultimate Dictionary of Over 1,000 Breeds written by the famous zoologist Desmond Morris (the first paperback edition 2008 by Trafalgar Square Publishing, page 618): "this huge guard dog is reputed to have been the largest canine that ever existed, standing 4 ft (121 cm) tall". Ofcourse, there's always chance that the dog in your photo is a some kind of different breed or a descendant of the original Suliot Dog - but at least those two don't seem to be the same breed, unless proven so. --Canarian (keskustelu) 8. joulukuuta 2013 kello 23.56 (EET)[vastaa]
