| Kuvaus | Here then is a replica of the Kohinoor diamond on display in the coin museum section of the Toshakhana (powder magazine) in the Gobindgarh Fort in Amritsar, north India. I guess the centre one is the Kohihoor diamond. The Koh-i-Noor (also spelt Kohinoor and Koh-i-Nur) is one of the largest cut diamonds in the world, weighing 105.6 carats (21.12 g). It is now part of the British Crown Jewels. The diamond was probably found at Kollur Mine on the banks of a river in Andhra Pradesh in southern India. There is no record of its original weight, but the earliest well-attested weight is 186 old carats. As a consequence of the history of the diamond involving a great deal of fighting between men, the Koh-i-Noor acquired a reputation within the British royal family for bringing bad luck to any man who wears it. Since arriving in the UK, it has only been worn by female members of the family. The governments of India, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan have all claimed ownership of the Koh-i-Noor and have demanded its return ever since India gained independence from the UK in 1947. The British government however insists that the gem was obtained legally under the terms of the Last Treaty of Lahore and has rejected all claims to rightful ownership received from all the above countries.
