English: During a routine patrol in the gulf region, HMS Defender broke away from her usual tasking in order to conduct a live 4.5" gunnery exercise.

The purpose of this training exercise is to prove proficiency at naval gunfire support.

HMS Defender is the fifth of the Navy's six state-of-the-art Type 45 destroyers.

4.5 inch Mk 8 Mod 1 naval gun is capable of hitting surface, aircraft and shore targets and is fitted to the Royal Navy’s latest Frigates and Destroyers.
