Finno-Ugric Wiki Meeting 2025 is a meeting of Wikipedians to be held in Oulu on October 18-19, 2025. The meeting is a continuation of the meetings organized from 2014 to 2020. The meeting is organized together with the Sami-language Wikipedians' meeting by m:Inari Saami Wikimedians User Group and is timed to coincide with the 5th anniversary of the Inari Sami Wikipedia.

The event is planned to include presentations on the history and current state of different wikis, among other things. Other suggestions that have been made include advancing how to localize various functions in smaller wikis. For example, how to make place names on Wikipedia's mapframe maps appear in the wiki's language.

The longer-term goal is to revive the annual meetings of Finno-Ugric Wikipedians and prepare for the Wikipedia meeting during Oulu's European Capital of Culture.

Time: 18.10.2025–19.10.2025 kl 10 - 16 (on both days; in practice could be later if participants want)

Program

The program is informal, but the following things have been planned:

On Saturday, October 18, 2025, after leaving Lucka, we're going out to dinner together (estimated around 5 PM, but the exact time and place TBD)
On Sunday, October 19, 2025, it's the birthday of the Inari Sámi Wikipedia. Cake, coffee, and pastries.
On Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM, a time has been scheduled for remote participants to join so that people are online at the same time.

Practical matters

Travel grants

Travel grants can be applied for from Wikimedia Finland for travel costs related to the meeting. Applications are made by writing a message to info (@) wikimedia.fi. The grant is discretionary and must first be approved by WMFI's board. Grants are distributed with the aim of including a wide range of different language areas. Travel grants are paid as expense reimbursements against receipts. (see Expense Reimbursement Guidelines)

Travel grants are funded by Wikimedia Finland's annual grant and a grant from the M.A. Castrén Society for organizing the event.
