TV on the Radio (ajoittain lyh. TVotR) on yhdysvaltalainen indie rock -yhtye, joka perustettiin vuonna 2001. Yhtyeen musiikkia voidaan kutsua free jazziksi, a cappellaksi/doo-wopiksi, souliksi, trip-hopiksi tai electroksi. Yhtye on julkaissut useita EP:itä, kuten debyyttinsä Young Liars (2003), sekä kolme kokopitkää albumia Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes (2003), Return to Cookie Mountain (2006) ja Dear Science (2008).
Historia
Yhtyeen ensimmäinen julkaisu oli vuonna 2002 ilmestynyt omakustanne OK Calculator (levyn nimi viittaa Radioheadin OK Computer -albumiin). Vain perustajajäsentensä Adebimpen ja Sitekin tekemä debyytti eroaa paljon yhtyeen myöhemmästä soundista, sisältäen elementtejä electronicasta, hip hopista ja turntablismstä. Myöhemmin yhtyeeseen liittyi Kyp Malone, ja Young Liars -EP julkaistiin vuonna 2003. Tätä seurasi yhtyeen ensimmäinen kokopitkä albumi Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes, joka voitti vuoden 2004 Shortlist Music Prize -palkinnon. Toinen EP New Health Rock julkaistiin myöhemmin samana vuonna.
Yhtyeen toinen studioalbumi Return to Cookie Mountain vuosi internetiin alkuvuodesta 2006 ja sai jo ennen ilmestymistään kehuja mm. Pitchfork Medialta. Albumi oli arvostelumenestys, ja Spin-lehti nimesi sen vuoden albumiksi. Albumin vierailijoihin lukeutuvat Celebration, Dragons of Zynth, Martin Perna ja Stuart Bogie (Antibalas), Blonde Redhead, Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) sekä David Bowie.
Yhtyeen kolmas albumi Dear Science julkaistiin syyskuussa 2008. Edeltäjänsä tavoin albumi sai kehuja kriitikoilta, mm. Rolling Stone[1], The Guardian[2], Spin Magazine[3], MTV[4], Entertainment Weekly[5] ja Pitchfork Median lukijakysely[6] nimesivät sen vuoden albumiksi.
