Somewhere Far Beyond on Blind Guardianin neljäs pitkäsoitto. Levy saa yleensä paljon ääniä, kun kiistellään parhaasta Guardian-levystä. Yhtye siirtyi tällä levyllä jälleen power metallisempaan suuntaan, joskin speed metallin piirteitäkin levyltä voidaan vielä löytää. Kahdessa kappaleessa soi tällä levyllä säkkipillikin, mikä vahvistaa Blind Guardianin mainetta hieman folkahtavana yhtyeenä. Näitä folk-elementtejä tulee esiintymään seuraavilla albumeilla yhä enemmän.
Levyn yksi tärkeimmistä ja vaikuttavimmista kappaleista on akustinen kitaraballadi Bard's Song: In the Forest. Bändin keikoilla mikään muu kappale ei saa yleisöä samanlaiseen laulukuoroon kuin juuri Bard's Song, ja se lauletaankin yleensä nuotilleen oikein.
