Cruelty and the Beast (CDMFN 242) on Cradle of Filthin kolmas täyspitkä albumi. Levyn kappaleet ovat kokonaisuudessaan yhtyeen omaa käsialaa. Kappaleet sävellettiin yhtyeen yhteistyönä, ja sanoituksista vastasi laulaja Dani Filth. Albumin konsepti käsittelee 1500-luvulla elänyttä unkarilaista kreivitärtä Erzsébet Báthorya.
Levy on nauhoitettu vuoden 1998 alkupuoliskolla ja julkaistu saman vuoden toukokuussa.
